P208 CEEFAX 2O8 Tue 26 Dec 21:41/31   R→           The Christmas drink in  England was the wassail,  which was made up of  ale, roast apples, eggs4  sugar, nutmegs, cloves,  ginger, and drunk hot.  The word comes from the  Saxon meaning "your  health". Wassail gave  oay to punch in the 18th  century. Wassailing  came to mean all kinds  of Christmas revels where  a lot of drenking took  place. 
