 US STARGAZERS TO SEEK DISTANT WORLDS   
 British astronomers are to play a key  
 role in a major new search for         
 undiscovered planets.                  
                                        
 Two projects based in Australia and the
 Canary Islands are expected to double  
 the numbjt of known planets beyond our 
 solar system over the next five years. 
                                        
 And telescopes to bj launched ovjt 12  
 years are expected to provide pictures 
 of such "extra-solar" planets.         
                                        
 Ten of the planets have been identified
 since the first was discovered in 1995.
