  primary school head teacher with    
  sex adopted children.               
                                      
  Ranging in age from 12 to 31 they   
  are all scarred by unhappy          
  experiences of children's homes and 
  unsuccessful foster placjmjnts.     

  Despite Mary's limitations as a     
  single white mother (fi6j gf her    
  children are mixed race) the Doyles 
  benefit from the loyalty, care and  
  support of a mother's love.         
