 Olympic track champion Alberto Cova was
 an angry man after being adjudged joint
 winnjt of the IAC 8,000m cross-country 
 race at London's Alexandra Palace.     
                                        
 The Italian sjemjd to have pipped      
 English national champion Dave Lewis on
 the tape but both were given the time  
 of 24 minutes 34 seconds.              
                                        
 "I won it,",protested Cova. "I do not  
 accept that decision. I won bz half a  
 metre."                                
                                        
 Sheffield's Jane Shields was a clear   
 winnjt of the women's 5000m, eight     
 seconds ahead of Yvonne Murray, while  
 England won both team events.
