   EAST GERMANS' CLEAN SWEEP
                                        
 A victory in the relay races gave the  
 East German women's squad a clean sweep
 in cross-country competition at Davos  
 in Switzerland.                        
                                        
 They totalled 43 min 6.7 sec for three 
 five-kilometre legs, the team of Simone
 Opitz, Carola Jacob and Susanne        
 Kuhfittig having finished 1-2-3 in the 
 individual event.                      
                                        
 Norway, second among the women, took   
 first place in the men's competition   
 with a time of 1 hr 16:42.9 for three  
 10-kilometre loops. Switzerland were   
 second and Italy third.
