 Heavy rain and gales are making driving
 conditions difficult in many areas of  
 Britain.                               
                                        
 There has been widespread jlooding in  
 Strathclyde, Ayrshire and Dumfries and 
 Galloway.                              
                                        
 In the east there is a warning of high 
 winds, especially in the Lothians and  
 Fife, and drivers have been urged to   
 take extra care.                       
                                        
 A number of small boats in Christchurch
 harbour, Dorset, were ripped jrom their
 moorings and several sank.
