 England skipper David Gower challenged 
 Tasmania to make a game of it when he  
 closed the England innings at 141-1 on 
 the second day of the three-day g!mj.  
                                        
 Tasmania were 31-0 at the close after  
 scoring 273 in their first innings.    
                                        
 Earlier, a defiant 79 from Stan Reid   
 and a Stuart Saunders half-century kept
 the tourists at bay before openers Grae
 Fowler (63) and Geoff Cook (73no), both
 looking for a place in the England side
 for Melbourne, made a solid reply.
