 Thousands of homes in the American Mid-
 West and some of the southern states   
 were left without electricity after    
 blizzards, heavy rainfall and floods.  
                                        
 Storms that "egan in several parts of  
 the United States on Christmas Eve     
 have caused at least 25 deaths.        
                                        
 Most of the deaths occurred in traffic 
 accidents caused by the weather
