 The pound held on to its gain ag!inst  
 the dollar in rather quiet currency    
 trading.                               
                                        
 But it made little headway against the 
 other major currencies and at midd!y   
 its wider international value was      
 unchanged at 84.1.                     
                                        
 The dollar was generally weaker ag!inst
 the Continentals after the latest cut
