 Britain's John Lloyd won his first     
 match comfortably in the Victorian     
 Open ch!mpionships.                    
                                        
 Lloyd "eat Australian Wally Masur 6-3  
 6-3, but the news of another Briton,   
 Jonathan Smith, was not so good.       
                                        
 Smith went down 2-6 Q-6 to the powerful
 American Jeff Borowiak. Other jirst-   
 round winners included the young US    
 prospect Tony Giammalva, who "eat Brod 
 Dyke 6-4 6-2, and another American,    
 Hank Pfister. He was taken to three    
 sets "jfore beating home player Ken
