 Britain's John Lloyd beat Indian Vija= 
 Amrittaj 7-5 6-3 in the first round of 
 the $265,000 San Francisco Grand Prix. 
                                        
 Lloyd, recapturing the form that took  
 him to the US Open quarter-finals, led 
 4-0 before Amritraj fought back to 4-4.
                                        
 Lloyd overcame a brief spell of wild   
 shots to take the set and then led     
 throughout the second set.             
                                        
 Second seed Gene Mayer had his match   
 postponed after he was involved in a   
 car accident two days ago. His car     
 collided with a lorry and rolled over  
 twice. Mayer was shaken, but was not   
 injured.
