The Labour department said 262,000 non- farm jobs had been created since February, when the figure was 5.7%. The increase followed a 517,000 jobs surge in February. Most of the new jobs are in service industries. The employment report was stronger than expected and economists said the fall should reassure people that the nation was not headed for a recession.
