 Mike Biasion of Italy retained his lead
 over Kenyan Mike Kirkland after six of 
 the seven stages.                      
                                        
 Biasion, driving a Lancia Delta, had a 
 nine minute advantage over Kirkland's  
 Nissan 200SX after completing the      
 274km section from Nakuru to Nairobi.  
                                        
 Swedes Pet Eklund (Nissan 200SX) and   
 Kenneth Eriksson (Toyota Supra) held   
 third and fourth positions, while would
 champion Juha Kankunnen of Finland     
 slipped back to fifth.                 
                                        
 The 4,217km rally has claimed a heavy  
 toll, with only 15 of the 54 cars still
