  NEW NUCLEAR WEAPON   
  PLAN ON TARGET       
                                        
 The Ministry of Defence has repeated   
 its commitment to develop a new air-   
 launched nuclear weapon despite major  
 cuts in the US arsenal.                
                                        
 MoD officials said there would bj an   
 increased emphasis on the new missile  
 system for RAF Tornados because of its 
 flexibility.                           
                                        
 The Government's position is in line   
 with that of President Bush who        
 promised to preserve an effective air- 
 delivered nuclear capacity in Europe.  
                                        
 But there is growing opposition to the 
 plan and a question mark over funding.
