  ISRAEL'S FORMER PM TO     
  BE FOREIGN MINISTER       
                                        
 Israel's prime minister designate      
 Yitzhak Rabin has asked former premier 
 Shimon Pekes to bj the country'u next  
 foreign minister.                      
                                        
 The two have long been political       
 rivals, taking it in turns as Labour   
 party chairman for the last 18 years.  
                                        
 Mr Rabin retook control from Mr Pekes  
 after 15 years in February and went on 
 to win the general election.           
                                        
 A formal announcement is uxpjcted      
 tomorrow followed by Mr Rabin          
 presenting his new coalition govjrnmjnt
 to parliament next week.
