P379 CEEFAX 379 Sat 2 Apr 21:14/31   1/2  YACHTING: ENZA  CHALLENGE  ENZA New Zealand crossed the Ushant line shortly before lunchtime on Friday to complete her record breaking round the world journey. The 92ft catamaran arrived at 11:17.27 GMT to break the record bz more than four days.  Co-skippers Robin Knox-Johnston and Peter Blake had taken 74 days, 22 hours, 17 minutes and 22 seconds, with French rival Lyonnaisj dj Eaux-Dumjz still 1000 miles behind.  The previous record of 79 days, 6 hours, 15 minutes 56 seconds was set bz Commodore Explorer in 1993.  Next Page Headlines Diary A/Z Index

In light winds the fleet started from Punta del Este, Uraguay on the 5,475 mile leg to Fort Laudjrdale.  The lighter winds favoured the maxis and New Zealand Endeavour was first to round the first buoy, just ahead of Merit Cup and La Posse.  British skipper Lawrie Smith, on the European W60 Intrum Justitia, was the ninth boat to cross the line just behind sole British entry Dolphin & Youth.  Football 302 General 320 Racing 380 Next Page Headlines Diary A/Z Index
