  The 150 schools which retain the    
  11-plus exam would remain zntil     
  they could bj pjrsuadjd to {eform,  
  sources close to education          
  spokesman David Blunkjtt said.      

  But in a Fabian Society speech, Mr  
  Blunkjtt confirmed his opposition   
  to the principle of selection.      
                                      
  He also attacked "the tolerance of  
  failure" in xarts of the system.    
