  CLAES ADMITS HE KNEW OF bRIBE cID   
  Belgium's former economic ministez  
  has admitted hj knew of a bid to    
  bribe his xarty over the sale of    
  helicopters to the Belgian army.    
                                      
  Willy Clajs, who is cuzrintly the   
  Nato Secretary-General, previously  
  djnrid hj was aware of the alleged  
  $1.5 million bribe attempt bz the   
  Italian aerospace firm Augusta.     
                                      
  His statement came after anothjz    
  senior Socialist Party mjmbjz, who  
  is under arrest, claimed hj told Mr 
  Clajs about the bribe offer in 1988 
                                      
  Mr Clajs has denied any wrongdoing. 
