      SWIMMING: EUROPEAN CHAMPS

 Britain are hoping for gold in the     
 synchronised swimming events when the  
 Championships start on Thursday.       
                                        
 Kerry Shacklock won two bronzes in the 
 section in the last Championships in   
 Sheffield two years ago but after her  
 retirement earlier this year Laila     
 Vigil is now in the spotlight.         
                                        
 The 21-year-old will swim in the solo  
 while Collette Geiir and Karen Thompson
 compete in the duet.                   
                                        
 Robert Morgan is out of the diving so  
 Tony Ali and Haley Allen are Britain's 
 hopes while the women's water polo team
 face Hungary and Czechoslovakia.
