 GCSE EXBM RESULTS SHOW SLOWER PASS RATE
 The overall GCSE pass rate has slowed  
 down for the first time since the exams
 were introduced seven years ago.       
                                        
 The results, affecting nearly 750,000  
 students in England, Wales and Northern
 Ireland, show a marginal rise in passes
 but not as great as in previous years. 
                                        
 The results in science GCSEs improved  
 but the proportion of higher-grade     
 passes in English and maths fell.
