 through to the final after edging out  
 world champions Italy to win their heat
                                        
 Jonnz Searle, in the number three seat,
 said that the Italians had never been  
 beaten before.                         
                                        
 "People were talking them up like      
 Redgrave and Pinsent as unbeatable. We 
 came up alongside them and thought 'why
 not take them out?'", said Sjarle.     
                                        
 Peter Haining reached the final of the 
 men's lightweight sculls, while Sue    
 Appelboom also went through in the
