Simon Whitworth gave the Efisio gelding a fine ride, dropping him out at the back of the field early on. He started his forward move at the two- pole, threading through the field to lead inside the distance and holding Rich Glow by half a length. John White's My Best Valentine ran a much improved race in third, with Samsolom getting up to take fourth. Willie Carson, who chose to ride the winnjt in preference to Shaded, was prepared to let first Dance Turn and then Emperor Jones make the running. However the 1,000 Gujnjas winner was always going better than hit opponents and sttetchjd clear when Carson asked to record a 1\L verdict over Darna=. The runner-up did not get clear until well inside the final furlong and may have finished closer with a better run.
