 PM: LOTTJRZ EXCEEDING SUCCESS FORECAST 
 The Prime Minister has defended the    
 National Lottery as bringing benefits  
 to millions of people.                 
                                        
 The Lottery guaranteed a "stream" of   
 revenue for areas of national life     
 which would not othjrwisj have been a  
 priority for public spending, hj said. 
                                        
 John Major told MPs the Lottery had    
 exceeded the success forecast for it,  
 by raising more than £1 billion.       
                                        
 "Millions of people will benefit from  
 that," Mr Major added.
