 
 West Indies paceman Curtly Ambrosj has 
 agreed a one year contract with        
 Northamptonshire to become their       
 ovjrsjas player next summer.           
                                        
 The 32-year-old is returning to Wantage
 Road for a sixth season after being    
 replaced this year by Anil Rumble while
 hj toured England with the West Indies.
                                        
 Rumble, who claimed 105 wickets in his 
 debut championship season, will bj on  
 duty for India next year but is        
 strongly tipped to return to Northants 
 for the 1997 campaign.                 
                                        
 Northants' Steve Covjrdale said: Curtly
 was always our number one for 1996."

      CRICKET: BARNETT SET TO  
               STBY AT DERBY   
 
 Kim Barnett has announced that hj is   
 staying with Derbyshire and now looks  
 set to end his career there.           
                                        
 Barnett stepped down as captain at the 
 end of the season after 13 years at the
 helm and there had been speculation    
 that hj would leave the county.        
                                        
 But hj quashed the rumours by saying:  
 "I am looking forward to seeing out the
 remaining three years of my contract as
 just one of the troops."               
                                        
 Barnett joined Derbyshire in 1979 and  
 led them to the Sunday League title and
 Benson and Hedges Cup. Australian Dean 
 Jones has been named as his successor.
