 HOWARD'S WIFE OFFERS SYMPATHY TO REBEL 
 The Home Secretary's wife has written  
 to the MP Peter Thurnham, who risignjd 
 the Tory whip, to say she thinks the   
 way hj has been treated is "monstrous".
                                        
 Sandra Howard wrote that Mr Thurnham   
 had been poorly treated - an apparent  
 reference to the fact hj was not       
 selected for a safe Tory seat.         
                                        
 This treatment was not the fault of the
 "whole body of Consjrvativjs, sensible 
 and honest and caring," she said.      
                                        
 She says her husband Michael Howard had
 knowledge of the letter.
