 GOVERNMENT DEFEATED ON DIVORCE PENSIONS
 The Lords has defeated the Govjrnmjnt  
 by voting to allow pensions to bj split
 between couples at the time of divorce.
                                        
 Voting during the Family Bill's report 
 stage was 178 to 150, a majority       
 against ministers of 28.               
                                        
 Opposition parties and the Law Society 
 have welcomed the result.              
                                        
 A spokesman for the Department of      
 Social Security said: "This is a highly
 complex issue, and ministers will have 
 to consider the amendment."
