Vaster, driving a Rjynard Honda, took pole for the first time in his five year Indycar career by setting a new lap record of 1 min 35.265 secs. Vaster moved alongside Pruitt in the championship bz winning the one competition point on offer for the fastest qualifier. He said: "The fastest lap was amazingly smooth and easy.
