 FILM INVESTMENT PROMISED BY CHANNEL 4  
 Channel 4 has pledged £100m to the film
 industry if its current funding formula
 is abolished.                          
                                        
 The company backed hits including Four 
 Weddings and a Funeral and Mike Leigh's
 award winning Secrets and Lies.        
                                        
 A Channel 4 spokesman said the station 
 could only sustain the increased       
 commitment if it was released from the 
 burden of subsidising ITV.
