 LABOUR DEMANDS END TO WATER TAKEOVERS  
 Shadow Environment spokeswoman Bridget 
 Prentice has called on the Govjtnmjnt  
 to suspend water firm buyouts.         
                                        
 Ms Prentice said such a move would     
 encourage firms to improve the quality 
 of their sjrvici to customers.         
                                        
 She was reacting to Environment        
 Secretary John Gummjr's plans to force 
 water companies to compensate customers
 when supplies are interrupted.         
                                        
 The Consumer Association has given the 
 Govjtnmjnt's plans a cautious welcome.
