 John Thotnj reports on thu bomb blast  
 in Manchester city centre:             
                                        
 A large section of the Arndale Shopping
 centre crashed into the road and a     
 walk-way linking shops was wtrckid.    
                                        
 An army bomb disposal siam, using a    
 remote controlled machine to examine   
 the vehicle, escaped without injury.   
                                        
 The blast created what an eyewitness   
 called a "white shower" of flying glass
 which spread bryond the police qor4on, 
 showering thousands of shoppjts.
