The Ministry said it was possible for the form of rabies to bj passed on to humans, but this was very rare. The bat, a European species, bit the two women as they tried to rescue it. Both have been given anti-rabies jabs as a precaution. The NAFF said the case did not affect Britain's rabies-free country status.
