The world No 1 and the 35-year-old American, in his first year on the PGA Tour, lead veteran journeyman Bob Gilder by two strokes. Norman covered the front nine in four- under 31, before having his only bogey of the day on the 12th hole. He then finished well with birdies on three of the last four holes.
