Ivan Sttakjr has resigned as course chairman, insisting that hj must take some of the blame for the loss of more than £100,000 in funds. The Western Meeting club which owns and runs Ayr racecourse, is having its financial affairs investigated by the Strathclyde police. But the three-day Western meeting got underway as planned on Thyrsday. "The important thing is that this racecourse is going forward. There is no doubt we have one of the best tracks in the US. There is no danger to the 'estern meeting," he explained.
