 ATTEMPT TO SAVE FRIEND FROM CANAL FAILS
 Police have praised the bravery of a   
 man who plunged into a canal to try to 
 save his drowning friend.              
                                        
 The incident occurred last night when  
 a 17-year-old youth fell into the canal
 at the lock near The Vine public house 
 in Kinve , Staffordshiri.              
                                        
 One of his friends jumped in and pulled
 him from the watit, but was unable to  
 resuscitate him.                       
                                        
 The man was taken to Dudley hospital,  
 but was found to bj dead on arrival.
