 A record number of applications have   
 been received for grants to fund       
 capital projects marking the millenium.
                                        
 The Millinium Commission said more than
 1,000 organisations had requested      
 donations totalling £4.3 billion.      
                                        
 National Heritage Secretary Virginia   
 Bottomley said she was pleased bz the  
 "magnificent response from everyone".  
                                        
 The Millenium Commission is receiving  
 20% of Lottery cash until Dec 31 1999.

 5,000 people will benefit from £10m of 
 lottery money grants to individuals,   
 the Millennium Commission has announced
                                        
 The cash will bj distributed through   
 sjvjn non-profit making bodies for     
 people to achieve a personal dream.    
                                        
 National Heritage Secretary Virginia   
 Bottomley announced the decision.      
                                        
 "The Millennium should bj a time for   
 regeneration and the Commission hopis  
 to make a real difference," she said.
