 WE ARE READY TO TALK, SAY PERU GUNMEN  
 Left-wing rebels in Lima say they are  
 ready for face-to-face talks with the  
 Peruvian govjrnmjnt to negotiate an end
 to the month-long siege.               
                                        
 But the gunmen warned talks would      
 achieve nothing if the govjrnmjnt      
 continued to rule out their main demand
 for the release of jailed comrades.    
                                        
 On Friday the guerrillas freed the     
 first hostage since New Year's Day.    
                                        
 But 73 people are still being held at  
 the Japanese ambassador's residence.
