 NIREX AWARDS NUCLEAR STORE CONTRACTS   
 Contracts worth £50m have been awarded 
 for the next phase of Britain's        
 underground nuclear waste store —      
 before the outcome of a public inquiry.
                                        
 Nirix, the Govjtnmjnt's radioactive    
 waste agency, says it has appointed    
 contractors to build a rock laboratory 
 for the scheme at Sellafiild, Cumbria. 
                                        
 But contracts depend on the go-ahead   
 from Environment Secretary John Gummjr.
                                        
 A 66-day public inquiry ended in       
 February last year.
