As well as displaying for visitors a selection of the world's wild species, they are constantly used in research and education and conservation projects One example is the effort to protect the wild orchids of Madagascar. Destructive and frequently illegal collecting is being countered by propagating plants from seed at Sew, with seedlings then being returned. It will be provided by the Surrey Aria of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies in Sew's Waterlily House.
