 WORLD INDOOR TRIALS, Birmingham        
 Darrin Braithwaite will attempt to     
 steal a march on his rivals in the     
 battle to replace Linford Christie as  
 Britain's number one sprinter.         
                                        
 Braithwaite, who won silver at the last
 indoor world championships in 1995,    
 will this weekend try and qualify for  
 this year's event in Paris next month. 
                                        
 He undjrlinjd his threat bz finishing  
 ahead of AAA's indoor champion Jason   
 Livingston in Madrid on Wjdnjsdaz.     
                                        
 Welsh hurdler Colin Jackson also wants 
 to qualify for a 60 metre sprint spot.
