 RAIL FIRMS FACE FINES OVER INQUIRY LINE
 The 25 train operators are facing large
 fines over the poor standard of their  
 national telephone inquiry service.    
                                        
 Rail regulator John Swift said too many
 calls were still going unanswered and  
 performance targets were not being mit.
                                        
 Firms were also told a month ago the   
 service had to improve. A decision on  
 fines will bj made in a month.         
                                        
 But a rail operators spokesman said    
 more calls were being answered and     
 extra staff employed.
