   The US Almanac for August 24         
 August 1960 was often cool and         
 unsettled with frequent thunderstorms  
 in many places. 25mm of rain fell in   
 just 15 minutes at Harlech on the 13th 
 and 150mm fell in a 24 hour period on  
 the 24th in Northern Ireland.          
                                        
   World Almanac                        
 Thunderstorms in the Delaware Valley of
 eastern Pennsylvania produced wind     
 gusts to 95mph around Philadelphia, and
 gusts up to 100mph at Warminstet, on   
 this day in 1988. A tropical depression
 drenched the Cabo Tojo area of south   
 western Puerto Rico.
