 KENYANS FLEE MOMBASSA FEARING POLICE   
 Thousands of people have fled from     
 Kenyan's Indian Ocean city of Mombasa  
 for a third consecutive day amid       
 growing fears of a police crackdown.   
                                        
 At least 47 people have died so far in 
 race-related gang attacks which started
 on August 13.                          
                                        
 Residents have continued to leave      
 Mombasa despite police assurances that 
 security forces would protect them.    
                                        
 They said they wanted to escape before 
 a gun search bz paramilitaries.
