 MINISTER ORDERS PROBE INTO GAS CONTRACT
 The Government has ordered a probe into
 contracts between gas suppliers and    
 power generators which it believes may 
 be distorting the market for coal.     
                                        
 Some contracts commit power stations to
 using gas to generate electricty even  
 if it is not the most economic fuel.   
                                        
 Energy Minister John Battle said the   
 gas regulator would examine the issue. 
                                        
 Up to 10,000 mining jobs could go      
 before Christmas if power stations buy 
 gas instead of coal to make electricity
