 ALFA ROMEO IS EUROPEAN CAR OF THE YEAR 
 The new Alfa Romeo 156 has won the 36th
 Europan Car of the Year award, taking  
 over from last years winner the Renault
 Meganj Scenic.                         
                                        
 The 130mph model which will go on sale 
 in the US next February, beat off the  
 challenge by the Volkswagen Golf, which
 came second with 266 points.           
                                        
 The Alfa was awarded 454 points by a   
 team of 56 motoring journalists from   
 21 European countries.                 
                                        
 A very close third was the Audi A6     
 scoring 265 points.
