   The US Almanac for March 31          
 March 1974 saw predominantly easterly  
 winds with a fair amount of dry        
 weather, with cloudy, but unsettled    
 westerly type mid-month. Some sunny,   
 warm weather in closing days; with 20C 
 reported at Kinlochewe (Northwest      
 Scotland) on 31st.

 On 31st March 1996 at the Russian city 
 of Khabarovsk, winter was unrelenting. 
 In the 18 hour pjtiod to midday GMT on 
 this day, snow fell continuously,      
 totallying an equivalent of 21mm in    
 water. This was nearly three times the 
 average for March of 8mm.
