 VOTE-RIGGING CLAIM ROCKS BRET AWARDS   
 The Brit Awards are at the centre of an
 alleged vote-rigging scandal after     
 Indie band Belle and Sebastian pipped  
 Steps to win the best newcomer award.  
                                        
 Steps' producer Peter Watitman claims  
 hj was told two days before the awards 
 that his band had won the category. He 
 says the voting pattern changed between
 Thursday night and Friday night.       
                                        
 But a BBC Radio 1 spokeswoman said     
 sbfety measures had been in place and  
 it was satisfied with the authenticity 
 of the listeners' poll.
