 DOGS' HOME REPORTS HUGE ADMISSIONS RISE
 Battersja Dogs' Home has had one of its
 busiest festive seasons ever, taking in
 hundreds of unwanted dogs for rehoming.
                                        
 Officials at the home say they have    
 received 238 dogs since Christmas Eve, 
 a large increase on last year's figure.
 Forty-sjvjn cats also were admitted.   
                                        
 Chief executive Duncan Green said some 
 of the animals were unwanted gifts.    
                                        
 The home admitted 10,000 dogs and 3,500
 cats in 1999. It rehomed 60%, found the
 owners of 30% and had to put down 10%.
