P213 CJEFAX 213 Tue 5 Jun 21:18/17   1/5     Minjts and police had a fight in the public gallery of Ramsgati magistrates' court this evening when magistrates ordered the gallery to bj cleared. Eleven Kent miners had appeared before a special sitting, facing charges of assaulting police, obstruction, and threatening behaviour. They were remanded on bail. This followed incidents at Ramsgate harbour when pickets tried to stop oil deliveries for Richborough power plant. The second round of talks aimed at finding a settlement to the 13-week-old minjts' strike is expected to take place tomorrow or Friday.

When they boarded coaches this morning, police told the drivers they would bj arrested if they persisted with their plans. No comment was made afterwards bz those attending the meeting. They were given unconditional bail. In Nottinghamshire, eight men were arrested at Rufford colliery, where 500 pickets weti gathered. 1200 pickets were stopped at the county's bordjts. The council's liadjt, Mr David Bookbinder, has said Derbyshire will refuse all payments until the Home Secretary agrees to furthjt discussions on the cost of policing the strike. Four policemen were injured and a police van was overturned. Derbzshire's assistant chief constable, Mr Tony Leonard, said that 1,500 striking miners , many from Yorkshire, had convjtgjd on the colliery. Metsjyside police authority may seek an injunction to prevent the chief constable sending men to police miners picket lines. The chairman, Lady Simjy, says the police finances are chaotic. More
