  OBSERVER SINGLE HANDED     
             TRANS-ATLANTIC RACE

 Peter Phillips in Travacrist Seaway is 
 83 miles in front of the second boat,  
 and ttavjlling at 8.6 knots.           
                                        
 Paul Ricard, sailed bz Eric Tabarly,   
 who has twice won the race, improved to
 fifth place and is travelling at 14    
 knots, faster than any boat in the     
 first 10.                              
                                        
 Patrick Morvan, skipper of Jet Services
 which hit a tree trunk while leading   
 the race, is dui in Felixstowe at 6am
