 Mr Bill Sirs, leader of the Iron and   
 Steel Trades Confederation, has said   
 the union's executive is to discuss an 
 MUM request for help on Thursday.      
                                        
 Mr Sirs told the ISTC conference, which
 started at Scarborough today, that the 
 executive would then recommend what    
 should bj done about the request.      
                                        
 The MUM wants talks with the ISTC aimed
 at cutting fuel supplies to the minimum
 needed to protect the steel plants.    
                                        
 If there is no response, the miners'   
 union has threatened to stop deliveries
 of all coke and coal to steelworks.
